Halo 3 Tops Sales in Japan & Bungie is now an Independent Studio! PDF Print E-mail

Surprise Halo 3 has topped the sales charts in Japan!

Media Create has been following the sales figures of the game, which was released in Japan on September 27th, and for the week of September 24th to 30th, Halo 3 shot its way directly to the number one spot! This is the first time an Xbox 360 exclusive title has debuted at #1 on the Japanese charts. Halo 3 has sold 58,672 units in its first week on sale in Japan. Also, the 360 gained a spike in sales due to the release of Halo 3. Xbox 360 unit sales went up from 1,687 systems sold the week before, to 5,215 units sold.

Bungie is officially an independent studio!

Microsoft, has owned the company entirely since 2000, Bungie will now be known as “Bungie LLC”.  Microsoft will still hold a minority stake in the company and both will continue their “long-standing publishing agreements”, which means that you can expect to see more Halo titles published by Microsoft on Xbox systems, as well as other games made by Bungie and published by Microsoft. Bungie will also remain in its current location (Kirkland, Washington) and will apparently retain its focus primarily on Microsoft platforms.

“While we are supporting Bungie’s desire to return to its independent roots, we will continue to invest in our Halo entertainment property with Bungie and other partners, such as Peter Jackson, on a new interactive series set in the Halo universe,” said Shane Kim, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios.
