Storyline

Platform: Playstation 2
Genre: Action
Rating: Mature (17+)
Company: Capcom
Legend tells of two mellenia ago, in the darkest reaches of hell, a demon swordsman named Sparda, awoke to justice and rebelled against the devil, waging a one-man war for the human world. Now, 2000 years later, a dark figure named Dante, a private investigator of the supernatural, finds clues that the devil is rallying to rise up again against mankind. Who was Sparda and how does Dante fit into this puzzle? Deep within Dante's blood lies the power of the ancient demons and the key to unlock the doors to the underworld. Follow Dante as his destiny is played out in a classic battle against good and evil. If he succeeds, the Devil May Cry.

Bosses

Phantom

The arachnid devil is an elemental creature of fire. Molten lava flows through its veins, and those who face the Phantom shall feel the heat of its wrath. Serving his dark god Mundus, the Phantom hunts down and attacks Dante. Little does he know about the secret the devil hunter is harbouring..

Griffon

The eldest and most loyal servent of Mundus, the Griffon is a devil that has struck terror into the hearts of men throughout the ages. However, his combat abilities are somewhat outdated and rusty. Knowing that it is up against the son of Sparda, Griffon plunges into battle regardless. Realizing his chances of winning against Dante are slim, it is still willing to sacrifice all in allegience to the Dark Emperor Mundus.

Nightmare

In the dark it stays in it's widespread slime form and sends bits of itself after Dante. When in light, Nightmare must assume solid form and is then suseptible to attack. Nothing is much known about this advisary, except that its attack of swallowing you up and ditching you in a reality is actually devastating to IT, reducing its life by about 25% EVERY TIME!

Nelo Angelo

Rumors and legends state that those who serve the gods of darkness once served the lords of light. It's no wonder that this dark knight has taken a name meaning "black angel". Despite serving his evil master, this fiendish swordsman prefers to challenge Dante to an honorable duel. Most devils fight with dirty tactics, like the Phantom. Why then does a noble warrior such as Nelo Angelo serve the dark side?

Nelo Angelo is an equal match for Dante, one dark night against another. There is a readily apparent similarity in their fighting styles. Is this a coincidence, or part of a sinister master plan?

Mundus

According to legend, a dark prince of the Underworld mustered a great army of evil and slew the former god of evil. Then the overlord planned to break through the thin vieil seperating the Underworld from the human world, uniting the land of eternal darkness with the world of light. But one of his foremost soldiers saw within human beings the fruit of kindness and generosity, and knew that the Emperor of the Dark must be stopped in his attempt to take over the universe. This dark knight waas Sparda, who defeated the evil one and sealed him in the Underworld for 2000 years. Cast out from the Underworld, thr former solder of evil took a human wife. He sired two sons and lived out the rest of his life in peace.

Two thousand years have passed, and the Emperor of Darkness has a new opportunity to invade the world of the living. Dispatching his servants into our reality, the god who calls himself Mundus plans to emerge on the island where humans worshipped him long ago. Although his ancient enemy passed away years ago, Mundus is still extremely concerned about the half-human prodigy of Sparda...

FACT:  Mundus is actually a Latin term referring to the "vile world" or the "imagined universe". The word is also used in the dream-philosophy works of Carl Jung. Therefore, it is not difficult to see how the god of evil Underworld would have such an allegorical name.

  Bonuses & Secrets

Hard Mode

Finish Normal Mode, then save your game. From this save game, you can play Hard Mode with everything you obtained in Normal Mode. Beware, because enemy sets get harder and bosses stamina are much greater. As well, Dante's attacks inflict minimal damage, so you must improve your strategies quickly. In this mode an
optional fight with the Phantom becomes available at the Fountain inside the castle.

The Legendary Dark Knight

Finish Hard Mode to Unlock a new character. Start a new game, and the "Character Select" option appears. You can now play a new game from scratch as Dante's father, the legendary dark knight Sparda. He comes equipped with his own katana, the Yamato. While his style is regal and his appearance is human, his shadow shows his true form. Sparda also has his own theme music and his own memory card screen.

Dante Must Die!

Complete the extremely challenging Hard Mode to unlock a disgustingly impossible "Dante Must Die!" Mode. You can now begin a new game at any difficulty level, inluding this new mode. As with the previous mode, you retain all the weapons and skills you got in the previous game. The enemy sets are the same in hard mode. Sometimes, a 30-second timer will appear when you enter a room. When this timer runs out, all the enemies still alive with DT! When the enemies are engulfed in red energy ribbons they can only be damaged if Dante DTs himself, as well as bosses can only take damage if Dante DTs. Talk about start slamming your head against the wall...yikes!!

Super Dante

Complete "Dante Must Die!" Mode, and you can select a new character to begin another game with. On the loading screen, Dante pulsates with supernatural power. Super Dante is the same as normal Dante, only his Devil Gauges never lose power. It definately makes "Dante Must Die!" Mode well worth it!

Image Gallery

Obtain a "S" Ranking in every mission to unlock a special image gallery full of character art. The gallery will not open by defeating Easy Automatic Mode.

Mission Ranking

It takes alot of hard work to achieve an "S" Ranking in every mission. There are several deciding factors in determining your Devil Hunter rank. The total time taken to complete a mission is the main factor, and depending on which mission, the speed can greatly vary. However, that is only a part of it, there are several other factors that allow you to compensate for the length of time.

The amount of damage you take may lower you rank, however, taking no damage increses your ranking by a full letter grade.

Enter and leave each room only once. Don't visit a room more than once, unless you're required to do so in the mission objectives.

You must aquire a certain number of orbs per level or your ranking will be lowered.

Kill every enemy in the room before leaving.

You cannot use any Yellow Orbs, Vital Stars, or Untouchables.

Some missions have specific penalties. Some examples:
Mission 5 - if you let the Melancholy Soul lose its charge, you're screwed.
Mission 9 - on replay, if you skip the first Griffon battle, you're screwed.
Mission 13 - miss the Blue Orb Slice in the rear cargo hold on the ghost ship, you're screwed.

Bonus Orbs

Upon completion of each mission, bonus orbs are awarded based on the ranking. Obviously the higher the ranking, the more orbs are received as well as for the higher the mission number. You can also receive Boss Bonuses by fighting a perfect or near-perfect battle against one of Mundus' minions. To get a good bonus, you can't take any damage and you must finish off the boss in a short amount of time.

Characters

Dante

Posing as a private investigator of the paranormal in a major American city, Dante does not often speak of the powers he inherited from his father. Long ago he felt the stab of Destiny's call, when servents of the Underworld abducted and murdered his beloved mother and brother. Since that time, he has worked under the guise of a freelance hired gun, eliminating supernatural creatures and clearing demonic infestations. Clients can hire him using a "password", which must be obtained through nefarious channels. No mortal suspects or know who Dante actually is, nor do they understand the strange power he possesses. Dante is't just the sum of his twin side-kicks, Ebony & Ivory. His mind is ahrp like the steel edge of his father's heirloom, the Force Edge sword. However, his heart burns with compassion instilled within him by his human mother. Deep inside Dante's core, feelings of loss and sadness mix with his lust for revenge against the dark side. He doesn't perform this job just because he loves it, he does it because one day he will learn the truth about his family's death and those responsible will ultimately pay the price.

Trish

This beautiful young woman visits Dante at his detective agency one night. Actually, she destroys the place! During the brief confrontation, she displays demonic powers. Where did she get these abilities, and why does she want Dante to stop the imminent invasion of the Underworld on Mallet Island?

Furthermore, how does she bear such an uncanny resemblance to Dante's deceased mother?

Devil Trigger

Once he obtains the Alastor, Dante awakens abilities he was not aware of. When the Devil Gauges beneath Dante's life meter glow brightly, this indicates they are fully charged, which enables Dante to initiate Devil Trigger aka DT.

Devil Gauges

Once the Alastor has been obtained inside the castle on Mallet Island (followed by a cool cut scene) three mystic runes will show up under his life meter. These are called Devil Gauges. The ruins fill with demonic power that can be unleashed during combat. You can refill these gauges with Devil Stars or by inflicting or receiving damage. You can DT when at least three Devil Gauges are full and once they run dry you immediately drop out of DT state. A quiet chime will sound when the gauges are completely full. Dante starts off with three gauges which can be increased to a maximum of ten runes by purchasing Purple Orbs from shops or in between missions.

Plus Side of Devil Trigger Mode

Press L1 when you have at least three Devil Gauges full to initiate DT mode. Dante will then glow with supernatural power while this state is in effect. He can then sprint at twice his normal speed, as well as not stagger or reel from hits that he takes, which enables him to counterstrike immediately.

When the Alastor is equipped and DT is in effect, Dante glows blue with the elemental power of lightning. His sword and gun attacks are thusfar enhancedwith this element. A few creatures are resilient to the effects of electrical attacks.

When the Ifrit Gauntlets are equipped, Dante glows red with the elemental power of fire. As with the Alastor, his guns are enhanced with the elemental power of fire. However, instead of using sword attacks, he can now kick and punch the living daylights out of his enemies at double the normal power of the gauntlets while in DT mode. Hold R1 and press down the Left Analog stick and quickly tap the O button to unleash a fury of devastating blows.

During the final battle of the game, the Sword of Sparda enables Dante to DT and fight as a true dark knight. Instead of firing bullets from Ebony & Ivory, he hurles red balls of energy at his enemy. Attacks with the Sparda sword lash out twice its already considerable length. Unfortunately this can only occur duringthe final battle and DT becomes temporarilly unavailable with the Sparda until such time.

When Dante obtains the Alastor and the Ifrits he can then purchase special moves for each weapon at shops or in between missions. Although you can purchase a variety of normal moves, there are also some moves that can only be used while in DT state.

Enemies

Beelzebub

Essentially big devil bugs that live in the waterways and bowels of the castle.

Appearance
:
They will infest locations in small swarms. They consist of flying blue bugs who drop stuff on you while the the green bugs on the ground will distract you while also spitting toxic stuff at you.

Fighting Tactics:
It's a good idea to use the shotgun on these guys. The flying ones are wusses so one shot and they're dead. The green ones will eat the blue ones to become more powerful. Knock the green ones on their back and jump above to blast the hell out of them, or use the sword to swipe them up and shoot at them from underneath. If you either of them with a Devil Arm they will explode maggots all over Dante whiel the flyers will keep dropping maggots on you. When maggots hit you you cannot shoot properly so jump around to shake them off.

Blade

These lizard like enemies are very swift and have good armor. They will surround their prey to rip it apart.

Appearance
:
They wear helmets and small pieces of armor, Blades are extrordinary fighters who can use their blood as a weapon by pressurizing their circulatory system to shoot their claws from their hadns like projectiles. Firearms don't work really well against them.

Fighting Tactics:
They never fight alone. There will often be one at each side waiting to ambush Dante. If Dante staggers or his life meter gets low, they become more vicious. They stay close to the ground so do an upward sword stroke so they become briefly upright so you can blast them in the gut with your shotgun. If you can, shatter their masks and Air Riad. If you are troubled by more than three Blades, DT and jump in the center of them and start slashing from side to side. Take many shots at those speeds will make them unable to counter all that much.

Death Scissors

They may look alike to the Sin Scissors but their more of a pain in the butt.

Appearance
:
Unlike thei siblings these guys have a cows head and much larger wepaons. They are quite rare in normal mode but like saying hi in the harder difficulty modes. When entering the area of a Death Scissor you'll get trapped between four beams of light in the floor making a net, while the Death Scissors can go in and out at will.

Fighting Tactics:
These guys are pretty immune to firearms. You need the Alastor to get these guys. You need to knock aside their scissors with the shotgun and then get them with Alastor mnay times to make them succumb. Air Raid as well as DT handgunning work pretty good too, but stop all attacks and start taunting when its head starts to glow red as it can't be hurt and must cool down. When it tries to stab Dante by coming out of the walls try to kick-jump off the walls as well as dodge rolling. Most attacks are useless during this time as well.

Fetish

Usually helping out Marionettes, it's not as screwed as them, which in turn makes it easier to screw you.

Appearance
:
The may look humanoid and move like Marionettes, but these feather and mud covered monstroseties can breathe fire and use their twin weapons to wreak some havoc.

Fighting Tactics:
They are essentially a stronger version of Marionettes. If you do your initial attack with the Alastor, you're stupid, because Dante has less than a second to leap out of the way before they give him a fire bath (IF they block). They can attack you off screen without warning because their two shield can be thrown quite the distance like a yo-yo. When the Fetish fires up it's shields and starts to spin, jump out of the way or stinger it to knock it down. They can also do the same screaming attack that Marionettes do that can trap Dante like a puppet in the air. Wiggle the left analog atick and press circle to get out of it. If they travel in packs or with Marionettes, you should Air Raid to thin them out so you can better attack the Fetish.

Frost

These demonized soldiers made of ice can harness the moisture in the air to perform awesome attacks that cover a wide range.

Appearance
:
Hard to imagine things comprised of ice living in hell, however, they are devils of the highest order with the ability to move at remarkable speeds and with dead on precision.

Fighting Tactics:
Equip Ifrit to help you in fighting a Frost. Switching to the Ifrit is better through the menu instead of R3 so that Dante won't get attacked during the changeover. They are suseptible to fire and impervious to anything else. Use the Kick13, Inferno, and Magma Drive often. Use the Magma Drive uppercut to throw them off balance then use other kicks and punches to hammer it back. Frosts can counterattack even when hit directly in the face. When it leaps in the air move far away, as it will give its icy version of the Inferno move. You can jump straight in the air and use the Rolling Blaze move to destroy the icicles this move causes. When encountered by more than one DT as much as possible and stick to hand-to-hand attacks.

Kyklops

These giant earthy enemies can leap disgustingly far as they try to crush Dante beneath them.

Appearance
:
Although they move and react swiftly these idiots sometimes attack eachother. They may look like spiders much like the Phantom but they aren't that much alike so squash them.

Fighting Tactics:
Screw these guys over by keeping them near eachother so their stupidity can shine through. Thee guys may shhot rocks out of their mouths without warning so Stinger them if your in front of them to prevent this. Mostly attack from the air with guns and swords and it helps to also DT and Air Raid.

Marionette

The 1st enemies you encounter in the game are the teetering, tottering giant toys whose antics once amused the families of Mallet Island. Their wooden frames now possessed by the will of evil spirits, they hunt hapless human beings for sport.

Appearance:
They appear in a variety of types with different sets of weapons. Depending on which weapon they have, they usually pre-warn you of attacking by spining their wrists. Some throw darts that fly in a straight line, other toss crescent blades that fly in a curved ark towards Dante, and sometimes they carry shotguns **KILL THESE FIRST**.

Fighting Tactics:
These guys are the easiest to whoop. Bash them with Dante's High Time and juggle them in the air with Ebony & Ivory. It may be difficult to fight lotsa these guys. If lots of them plug up a corrider you might get screwed. You can either jump over them and bash them with your sword to break them up, or what I do...blast them to hell with the shotgun (tee hee hee).

Nobody

These joyously fiendish jackals are even hated by their unholy master so much they were not worthy of having a name. They are homicidal maniacs and love chaos..

Appearance
:
Their twisted and contorted bodies look like humanoids forced to walk on all fours. When wearing a mask they are most dangerous, nearly doubling in size and they like to dance to siphon Dante's powers. They also leave their body parts that look like eyes rolling about after Dante that like to explode. The giant ones also have a strong arm growing out of their backs that likes to grab Dante and ram him into everything.

Fighting Tactics:
When fighting one, it's best to attack once (Stinger to the head) and then jump away. When fighting the big ones try to destroy their masks. It's recommended to make the Nobodys shrink ASAP so there is less chance of them hurting you or siphoning your magic energy. When chased by eyballs, attack them with a sword to harmlessly detonate them. Use DT guns and plummel them with the Air Riad attack.

Plasma

They're evil spirits that mix organic materials with electricity that can change shape between a bat and a humanoid form to utilize both the air and the land. Use the Alastor against these guys and you're screwed..

Appearance
:
They're solid blue in color rippling with electricity to power their attacks. While in bat shape they can attack Dante from the sky. They also launch plasma-particle beams no matter what their form. They like copy-cating Dante's attack style and may split into three parts if hit. To prevent this use only fire attacks.

Fighting Tactics:
The Alastor with heal and damage them at the same time, given the Alastor and Plasma are both lightning based. The Ifrits are a good choice given the Plasmas weakness to fire. When they're in bat form DT and pump them full of lead which should knock it from the sky. Quickly isolate a grounded lone plasma and bash the living hell out of it. If it splits, quickly DT and attack with a vengance to reduce their numbers.

Sargasso

These large skulls dwell in our nightmares as well as in the waters beneath the seas and exsist in a realm slightly between this reality and the next.

Appearance
:
They assume the shape of a skull to inspire dread and loathing into their prey. They remain somewhat transparent until someone wanders too close. Sometimes you'll find a skull larger than the rest, painted with the archaic symbols of Underworld rituals..

Fighting Tactics:
As soon as your in range where they become tangible, attack immediately with the Alastor and the Shotgun. Normal ones require few hits, while the larger ones require more. They'll either try to eat you or spit a toxic substance at you. The last one defeated is usually stupidly nice and drops a green orb.

Sin Scythe

Even through they look similar to the Sin Scissors, they are far more deadlier and have more moves than snipping your jewels and that stupid annoying cackle..

Appearance
:
These ones are fun because they go wherever they please, be day or night. Because their weapons have greter reach and their ability to hurt you where they want they hover high above ground.

Fighting Tactics:
Because they like to float really high, you should get Dante his Air Hike to get up to them. Even though they use their weapon as a shield as well, you can gurt them from above pretty easily. But be warned to stay away from the small circles that appear in the air between them as they can bash you down to the ground when touched.
When they start to circle rapidly in the air above Dante prepare to be waved around like a flag. You can reduce the damage incurred by the by wiggling the left analogue stick to break free.
If you hear a spinning sound, they're gonna send their weapon spinning towards Dante. The scythes accuracy is awesome through and through so either quickly dodge this attack or DT and use the handguns to blast it away. These things are vulnerable without their scythes as well as to a shotgun at their mask.

Shadow

These panther wannabes are old nemesis of devil hunters. They are very intelligence and can attack and defend with incredible prowess. The black smoke hides their true form.

Appearance
:
They resmeble demonic panthers with glowing red eyes. When fighting one the exits are usually sealed so you must fight them to proceed. When you hurt them enough they reveal their true self briefly: a floating, kinda red sphere. During this time they are easilt hurt with Devil Arms but has pretty good defensive measures.

Fighting Tactics:
Because they are familiar to Devil Arms they have an invisible protective sheild against these which can also fire projectiles towards you. So pump it full of lead and Roll (R1+Circle+Analog left or right) to get away from them. DT guns are the best. Sometimes the Shadow with turn into a spear that shoots horizontally around the area, and when the lond speaar section is jumped on it'll become stunned allowing for an easy target with the guns. When it turns into its true form use the Stinger to attack and dodge the spikes coming up from the ground around it. When the Shadow turns bright red it'll try to capture and bash around Dante and then blow up. When this happens, dodge its attempts with shooting at it until it self-explodes, making sure to stay away or you'll get hurt really bad.

Bloody Mari

Amoung the ranks of Marionettes, the red ones stand out. With more HP and greater agility, they are "fun" to try and kill.

Appearance
:
The 1st Marionette to attack Dante is a Bloody Mari. Red dolls always stand out as they are somewhat the leaders of the pack. In Hard Mode, most Marionettes are Bloody Maris.

Fighting Tactics:
Bloody Maris need more slashes and gun juggling to bring down. They'll also attack more frequently, making Dante to focus his attacks on them. You should destroy all the other Marioettes in the room first so that they cannot surround Dante while he's fighting the Bloody Mari
.

Death Scythe

These guys are Captain Pain in the butts of all of its kind..

Appearance
:
They resemble the Death Scythe but they can hadle more the 1 scythe. Where there is one, there is many, as well as 3 or 4 black circles on the ground around them.

Fighting Tactics:
When you step on the circles you'll be launched into the air where you'll be targetted or you can use them to get above the creature and attack it from above. It's most vulnerble on its horns. Also, if your stupid and take too long it'll start gathering up its scythes from all around the area to kick your butt. When it does this attacking and dodging gets harder. It's best to use Air Raid to attack or DT handguns.

 Sin Scissors

The Grim Reaper wannabes use giant scissors for weapons. The transparent bodies are just a distraction from their only true physical manifestation other than the scissors, their mask, which is their weak point.

Appearance:
They float above ground and they mostly stay inside, only venturing outside after dark. Their giant scissors make them stand out above all of the rest of the evils.

Fighting Tactics:

It uses its scissors as both a weapon and a shield. You can either use the Alastor to knock the scissors aside causing her to be stunned then blast it's face off with the shotgun, or jumping off it's face to make it lower its scissors and slashing down hard at it when coming down.

  Weapons

Devil Arms

Force Edge

Force Edge is a momento from Dante's father. The sword was used to defeat Mundus and seal the gaetway of the millenia for 2000 years. Dante has trained himself to learn the skills of a dark knight utilizing this sharp and indestructible sword, but has never realized the true potential of the sword...

The legendary lighting imbued sword is found where it was left centuries ago, impaled through the heart of the Judge of Death. Once aquired, it provides Dante with special abilities (like the ability to DT).

The Gauntlets of Flame are worn on Dante's wrists to strengthen  every kick and punch the element of fire. If you hold the circle button longer between each hit, it'll have a stronger effect when let go of. Since the Gauntlets are for close-range mainly, it becomes necessary for Dante to learn moves for them to increase their range of effectiveness

Sparda

The legendary Sword of Sparda is the true form of the Force Edge. The Sparda only assumes its true form after the Perfect Amulet is found. This is the strongest blade Dante acquires, although its powers are temporarily sealed. There is only one enemy that the sword is interested in slaying, and only then will DT be available again. The sword can be extended into a long spear-like weapon, and it can even take on a scythe shape. Using the Sparda, Dante can imitate skills learned with the Alastor.

Guns

 Handguns

 Needlegun

The only weapon that can be used underwater fires a thin needle at enemies. The incredible firepower required to shoot underwater makes this a deadly weapon. This weapon becomes immediately equipped while entering and unequipped upon exiting water.

Shotgun

This double barrel, sawed-off boom stick is a classic addition to Dante's arsenal. The weapon spreads a cloud of shrapnel in a wide cone in front of Dante. This is great to use against overwhelming numbers of enemies in tight spaces, because more than one enemy is hit by the blast. The range of the weapon is extremely limited, and does better damage at closer of a range. It's possible (& fun) to clear the entire game using only the Handguns and the Shotgun, with occassional help from the Needlegun

Nightmare-Beta

This frightening weapon encloses the forearm as well as the entire hand. The trigger is far up inside the device. Dante can fire it from air or the ground. The Nightmare-Beta fires a plasma projectile that bounces off the walls towards the enemies. It feeds of Dante's Devil Gauges, the the more devil power Dante has, the more powerful the shots are and the longer they rebound. However, this gun comsumes devil power and becomes very weak when the Devil Gauges are empy. This weapon is best used in conjunction with the Sword of Sparda.

Grenadegun

This portable hip cannon fires mini mortar shells at enemy targets. The range is minimal at best, and the weapon is heavy to lift and fire. The recoil from eah blast gives Dante a moment's pause between each shot. Due to its cumbersome weight and size, Dante cannot fire this weapon from the air. He must be firmly planted on the ground to fire a grenade. However, when the shells explode, shrapnel disintegrates within a short distance. Multiple close-quartered enemies can be struck by a single shot.

  Items

Vital Star:

Dante begins with only one of these in his inventory. Unless playing Easy Automatic, he can only ever hold one. They can only be bought between missions or at Wtcher of Time shop statues. Dantes health meter is displayed in green when he's in full health, orange for midrange, and red for royally screwed. When Dante's life meter is empty, the next hit will kill him. Sometimes during the game, Dante's life is gradually drained for one reason or another.

Devil Star:

When Dante aquires the Alastor, he becmes capable of entering DT mode.  As Dante remains in DT the meter below his life meter is drained over time or by special moves. A Devil Star can recharge five Devil Gauges when used. Dante can hold 10 Devil Stars in his inventory. Devil Stars are hidden in several secret spots in the game, and you can purchase them between missions or at the shops.

Untouchable:

Using an Untouchable grants Dante immortality for a short time. While the Untouchable's shield is in effect, his life meter cannot be further reduced and his Devil Gauges remain full. Save these important item for battles against boss monsters to gain the upper hand on an enemy that is almost defeated. You cannot purchase Untouchables; you can only find them by searching well and finding their hidden locations.

Holy Water:

When used from the item menu, Holy water causes severe damage to all enemies in the immediate area. In some incredibly wide areas, such as the Commons outside the Coliseum or the path through the Canyon of Mist, a Holy Water's power will not reach all the way to the far ends. However, most enemies surrounding Dante will be killed when this item is used. You cab find Holy Water globes in a few locations throughout the game, and purchase them between missions and at shop statues.

  Moves List

Normal Special Moves
Dante begins the game with special moves he has developed while honing his devil hunting craft. Details on most of these moves are contained in the "Normal" section of the Action Menu.

Kick-Jump

Dante can jump much higher than any normal human. For him, even stairs are optional. Jump towards any wall or verticle surface and press the Triangle button again the moment Dante connects with the wall. Dante will pounce of the surface to the next level. Press the Left Analog Stick in a new direction during the kick-jump to make Dante travel a different direction from the point of impact on the wall (rather than up).

Roll

Dante rolls out of harm's way by holding R1 and pressing the Left Analog Stick in the direction to Dante's left or right, then pressing the Triangle button. We mean his actual left or right as you are viewing him on-screen.

Devil Trigger

Press L1 when the Devil Guages beneath Dante's life meter are full. You must have the Alastor or Ifrits equiped to DT. In DT mode, Dante enters a state where his demonic side takes over and his power doubles.

Sashimi

Although not listed in the Normal Actions menu, Dante can hack his enemies into chopped liver with this frantic stabbing attack. Each time you press the Circle button, Dante slashes back and forth across an enemy. Slash the enemy twice, but hold the Cirlce button down for a brief moment after the second stroke. Start tapping the Cirlce button rapidly and Dante executes a vicious flurry of stabbing attacks

High Time

High Time is Dante's signature, multi-faceted combat move. To begin High Time, hold R1 and press the Left Analog Stick in the direction away from the enemy Dante is facing. Press the Circle button, and Dante will bash the enemy up into the air. At this point, you can switch over to the Handguns by pressing the X button. Tap the X button continuously to "juggle" the enemy in the air with bullet after bullet. Or, after throwing them up in the air, press and hold the Circle button to make Dante leap up into the air alongside the enemy. At the highest point, tap the Circle button and Dante will bash the creature into the ground.

Alastor Special Moves
The Alastor has its own menu of special moves that you can purchase as soon as enough Red Orbs are obtained.

Stinger

The Level 1 Stinger is the lowest priced moveon the menu. To do the Stinger, hold R1 and rotate the Left Analog Stick toward an enemy, then press the Circle button. Dante will glide across the ground and stab the Alastor into an enemy with tremendous force which can often stun enemies or knock them into the ground. Upgrading the Stinger to Level 2 enables Dante to glide further and deliver a more powerful attack.

Round Trip

This move allows Dante to fling his sword at an enemy. The sword spins within the enemy's body, causing multiple hits of damage before returning to its place on Dante's back. While the sword is attacking an enemy, you can double the attack by firing guns at the enemy. Once the skill is obtained, press and hold the Circle button until Dante flings the weapon. Press the Circle button again if you want the Alastor to return immediately.

Air Raid
