Rainbow Moon (PS4) Interview - 2016

We had the pleasure of getting a interview with Marcus Pukropski, CEO of SideQuest Studios, about Rainbow Moon.

What inspired you make this game?

We all are huge fans of RPGs, so Rainbow Moon was on our list for a long time. The recent port to PlayStation 4 made sense as the platform has gained a lot of popularity and we wanted to be in a good position when our new game Rainbow Skies launches.

While developing the game, what was the hardest issue(s) that you came across?

There are many technical and game related issues in every development cycle. One of the difficult tasks that took much longer than expected was the port of our engine to the PS Vita without making compromises. Fortunately the PS4 engine port went a lot smoother.

What was your "best moment" during development?

That's hard to say, because the entire development cycle of a game is fun. I think for me, the best moment was the feedback from the community when we realized, that many people really love the game.

Were you able to incorporate all of the ideas that were proposed?

That's almost impossible, because there is always something you can improve. But regarding the main features, we've added most of the planned features, yes.

If the answer to the previous question is no, would you add those other ideas through DLC or make a possible sequel?

Absolutely, you can see tons of improvements and new ideas in our sequel Rainbow Skies, so stay tuned. :)

Are there any plans to bring Rainbow Moon to Live?

At the moment there are no plans.

Can you provide any insight into your next title?

That would probably go far beyond the scope of this article, but in a nutshell, expect a new world and story that has been improved in many aspects, lots of new game mechanics, an entirely new and polished user interface and much more. At the same time, the game stays true to its roots, so you'll still find a vibrant colorful world and traditional turn based gameplay.

Any special advice for the fans playing Rainbow Moon. Something like a special gameplay tactic or a hidden gem?

The game is full of secrets and hidden stuff. I don't want to spoil too much here, but there are lots of web sites and we have a wiki where you can find everything you're looking for.

How do you like the PS4 as a platform for game development?

It's a nice platform, easy to develop and powerful at the same time, so we haven't had lots of trouble porting our engine.

Any advice for people starting out with game development? It does not matter what platform they are using.

Have fun and don't overdo it in the beginning. Things usually turn out to be more complicated as they seem first, so focus on the core gameplay.
