Finally, a well known light-gun franchise appears on touch screen devices, think of a house, think undead, think zombies, that's right, The House of the Dead: Overkill - The Lost Reels has arrived!...
The title contains a number of levels from its console counterparts. You can buy further levels and extra content and such if you so wish via IAP. Continuing the fine tradition of eliminating of the undead, the title encompasses plenty of gore, gruesome and blood splattering action from start to finish.
The dark and murky graphics are nice recreated for this type of genre, with monsters and zombies luring around pretty much every corner, it can and will get frantic at times, that's the fun of it, how you cope when all hell breaks loose - literally.
Starting with a pistol and shotgun, there is a variety of weapons on offer as you progress in the game, from sub-machine guns, assault rifles to mini-guns etc. You can replay levels multiple times and rack up combos from accurate headshots the more the merrier.
As you play, you gain credit, you can use the accumulated credit or 'Ka$h' for upgrading your weapons, the more you upgrade the more powerful you become.
Control-wise, the game offers virtual d-pad control or accelerometer control (the latter being more responsive and intuitive) - you just tilt/point and shoot, simples.
When the time comes to fighting the bosses, it can get a bit hard going, it's possible but the key is to continually upgrade your weapons.
Overall, Sega's debut light-gun turned finger-blaster is a decent game on iOS, with frightening graphics along with frantic brain-splattering gameplay, it's a great blast while it lasts. Let's hope there will be more shooters coming from Sega such as Virtua Cop, Confidential Mission etc.
