Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare Review

After all the hype that Advanced Warfare received with its jump into the future, does the introduction of the Exo-suit make this game better? Or is this Call of Duty the same old game with a fresh coat of paint?

Before I talk about gameplay, I want to state I have been playing another Activision title, Destiny. As such, I am inclined to compare the two in regards to their shooter mechanics. Personally, I found the switch from Destiny to Call of Duty very hard. In Destiny, shooting is straightforward and picking up ammo is simple. The shooting in Destiny has a very organic feel to it. I cannot say the same with Call of Duty. I find that I run out of ammo too quickly.

This in turn makes me run around the map. I quite often get killed during these runs, looking for a new gun to pick up that has ammo in it. The shooting in Call of Duty feels very mechanical and I did not find it fun shooting people. I felt that it took too much ammo to kill my enemies. I have played all the previous Call of Duty games and this is the first time I have felt this way.

On the flip side, Call of Duty does something much better than Destiny. Call of Duty gives you some awesome technology at your fingertips. None of the guns in Destiny make your inner voice scream "AWESOME!!!" or makes you scream like a school girl. Call of Duty has some really cool technology. Below is a partial list of some of the tech that you can use:

Weapon Attachments: Thermal Scope, Target Enhancer, Foregrip, ect.

Exo Launcher: Semtex, Threat grenades, Spike Drones, EMP grenades, ect.

Exo Abilites: Shield, Mute Device, Cloak, Ping, ect.

The greatest thing about Call of Duty is that it seriously allows you to feel as though you are a one man army. It allows for a high degree of customization of your weapons. I enjoy that I have a lot of different throwable technology, which allows me to pound the enemies into the ground. I like that I am able to use a shield or use my cloak to go invisible in order to get around a tough enemy.

One negative of Call of Duty is with the enemy AI. I find that the enemy AI in Destiny is much better than in Call of Duty. In Destiny, the enemy seems smarter, and sometimes they would blitz you, retreat or take cover for a few seconds and resume their attack. I did not have this feeling in Call of Duty. I felt that the enemies would nearly always appear in mass, over and over again. As a result, i would die very fast, often times with no clue as to which direction the finishing shoot came from.

At the end of the day, this Call of Duty is a shooter which loses to Destiny. However, its shooting experience is improved by the fact that you have so much awesome technology that you are able to use. I would easily suggest this game to anyone who is looking for a good shooter to play.
